The classification is made from the edge's own view of the connection, its headers and its behaviour as the request is served. Nothing is reconstructed later from a log sample, so a spike arrives already sorted.
The mix moves before the total
Request volume can sit flat while the human share falls away underneath it. Plotting composition rather than count makes that case visible, and it is the case a volume counter cannot show at all.
Not every bot is a problem
